Good Governance

  • Transparent and ethical oversight:
    • Implement the Code of Conduct for all Council, Board and Committee members.
    • Implement all 30 recommendations from the City of Victoria Governance Review (July 2022). Implement the recommendations in all 6 major areas in order to achieve better city governance:
      • Role of Mayor and Council
      • Council Remuneration
      • Committees and Advisory Bodies
      • Council and Committee Decision-making Processes
      • Public Access and Input to Decision-Making
    • Establish an Integrity Commissioner to oversee issues and implementation of the Code of Conduct;
  • Support City Workers
    • Implement a city-run childcare program for staff.
    • Recruit and retain staff to meet current and ongoing needs.
    • Expand training and professional development opportunities.
    • Focus on job satisfaction, balancing and reducing workloads.
  • Implement a regular Town Hall strategy
    • Work with staff, stakeholders, and community associations to implement quarterly Town Hall meetings.
